Rudolph and Sletten’s ongoing work on the Lusardi Tower at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas has been certified in Cal/OSHA’s prestigious Voluntary Protection Program for Construction (VPP-C), underscoring the general contractor’s deep-rooted safety culture. The three-story, 224,000-square-foot expansion is one of the most complex in Scripps’ history, with nine construction phases taking place alongside uninterrupted patient care. R&S’s proactive safety approach—highlighted by extensive planning, utility verification protocols, infection control measures, and trade partner mentorship—has resulted in zero lost-time incidents across more than 330,000 work hours. Six of seven subcontractors on the project have also achieved Cal/OSHA’s Golden Gate recognition, a testament to the company’s philosophy of “raising everybody’s boat.” Company leadership credits a culture-driven commitment to safety—not just policies—and continues to expand its influence by mentoring dozens of trade partners toward higher safety standards across California.
