Mike Castillo of Rudolph and Sletten Delivers Keynote Address at San José State University College of Engineering Freshman Orientation
SACRAMENTO, CA (September 24, 2007)—Mike Castillo, Vice President of Operations for Rudolph and Sletten, Inc.’s Irvine Office, delivered the keynote speech for freshman orientation at the San José State University College of Engineering on September 7.
Mr. Castillo discussed U.S. energy production as well as global environmental stresses, and described how the construction industry in the U.S. is responding to the environmental challenge through green building and LEED certification.
“Global warming and environmental distress cloud the future,” said Mr. Castillo. “As you enter the profession of engineering, it is important to focus on the development of green engineering programs so that we can provide solutions for the future.”
Mr. Castillo graduated from San José State University with a degree in Civil Engineering and has been an executive with Rudolph and Sletten for over two decades. As Vice President of Operations for the Irvine Office, Mr. Castillo is responsible for the overall operations of Rudolph and Sletten, Inc. in the Los Angeles area. The Irvine Office yearly volume is approximately $280 million and has over 150 staff personnel.

Mr. Castillo began his construction career as a concrete laborer in the Bay Area while he attended San José State University. He joined Rudolph and Sletten in 1985 as a Project Engineer in the Bay Area office and served as a Senior Project Engineer and Project Executive before being named Vice President of Operations for the Irvine office.
As Project Executive, Mr. Castillo managed many major projects, including Sweetwater Union High School District; San Ysidro High School in San Diego; VERITAS Software Corporation in Milpitas, Sunnyvale, and Mountain View; and the University of Southern California Healthcare Consultation Center, Los Angeles. Mr. Castillo is a member of the San José State University, College of Civil Engineering Advisory Board and is the recipient of the 2006 SJSU Gold Award, Graudate of the Decade.
