Birthplace of Silicon Valley To Be Restored by Rudolph and Sletten
REDWOOD CITY, CA (October 20, 2005)-- Rudolph and Sletten General Contractors has been chosen as the general contractor for restoring one of Silicon Valley’s most famous landmarks, the HP Garage in Palo Alto.
Known as the birthplace of Silicon Valley, the 12 x 18 foot garage is the site where Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard developed the first HP product in 1938. In addition to repairing and preserving the garage, Rudolph and Sletten is rehabilitating the property’s house and shed, located at 367 Addison Avenue, to 1938-era conditions.
Rudolph and Sletten handpicked a project team from its Special Projects Division to complete the revival of these important buildings.
“HP wanted to preserve the garage structure because it is an icon—it represents the importance of the history of the area, of Hewlett-Packard Company, and of the technology industry,” said Rudolph and Sletten project executive Tim Tempel.
Rudolph and Sletten’s recent renovation projects include the California Theatre, the new home of Opera San Jose; Stanford University Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for the Visual Arts; Hanna House at Stanford University; the San Diego Museum of Art; Beringer Blass Wine Estates in St. Helena; St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park; Sacred Heart Schools in Atherton, and portions of the Sun Microsystems campus in Santa Clara.
