Hewlett Packard’s True Blue
Jun. 12, The new building’s ultra-modern, glass-enclosed lobby overlooks a 100-year-old California Valley Oak, only 25 feet behind the reception desk. From that vantage point, Chief Executive Meg Whitman told the company’s board of directors and executive staff that the historic tree and briefing center “combine the new and the modern and the forward-looking with an anchor to the past. UCSD breaks ground on medical research facility and diabetes center in La Jolla
UC San Diego broke ground on its new $269 million Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI) Jan. 10, during a ceremony attended by about 400 people, including elected officials, medical professionals, patients and philanthropists.

 


Best Project, Higher Education/Research: Design-Build Team Puts Heart Into UCSF Project
Completed in June 2012, 10 weeks ahead of schedule, the LEED-Gold-certified research building for the University of California San Francisco's 54-year-old Cardiovascular Research Institute is dedicated to seeking cures for heart and vascular disease—the leading cause of death in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

 


Weill Hall takes a bow at its opening
