Cost Engineer - Job Description
Cost Engineers at Rudolph and Sletten must have initiative, imagination, flexibility, communications skills, and the perseverance to perform their duties. In the office, the Cost Engineer's primary function is to support/assist a Senior Estimator in the quantity survey, pricing, and bidding of a construction project. In the field, the Cost Engineer's primary function is to support the Superintendent with the project cost control. This allows a Cost Engineer to receive maximum detailed exposure to specific activities for use later in his or her career. The work is fast-paced and requires that the Cost Engineer be a problem solver. As an integral part of the Rudolph and Sletten construction team a Cost Engineer obtains hands-on experience from the beginning.

The Cost Engineer's primary responsibilities are to:

  • Perform quantity surveys and unit list budgeting

  • Manage material and equipment procurement

  • Track manpower utilization and productivity

  • Provide the Estimator with ongoing productivity rates from the field

  • Develop Subcontractor interface and procurement

  • Process administrative work including subcontractor bidding process, project cost updates, and constructability review of documents
